DCMI RDF AP Task Group

http://wiki.dublincore.org/index.php/RDF_Application_Profiles

Meeting date: June 24, 2014

New link: https://meetings.webex.com/collabs/#/meetings detail?uuid=M1YHN73IENMJ1P5ENDCNKAH4NK-JV0D&rnd=820004.83003

Attendees: Thomas, Evelyn, Lars, Adrian, Valentine, Bernard, Stefanie, Tom, ericP, Diane

Regrets: Antoine, Mark Matienzo, Gordon

Agenda:

Presentation by Thomas on requirements database work

http://purl.org/net/rdf-validation

due to technical problems, this will be rescheduled for the next call, July 8

Strategy for analysis of use cases

  • work group: Valentine, Evelyn, Stefanie
  • desired outcomes: Use case group will begin with the EDM spreadsheets, described and linked at http://wiki.dublincore.org/index.php/EDM. They will compare the application profiles and attempt to associate the use cases with identified requirements in the rdf-validation database.

- Kai: db has use cases and requirements

ACTION: Evelyn, Valentine and Stefanie to try to link EDM tables to the rdf-validation database identifiers

ShapeExpressions work with W3C (EricP)

A proposal has been submitted to W3C as a (working group - requires membership or invite). Eric has done an analysis of the intersection of DCAP and ResourceShapes (IBM).

The Shape Expressions work builds on RelaxNG

In coordination with the W3C RDF Data Shapes group, this group can submit some subset of the use cases to the W3C RDF Data Shapes WG (charter)

Example Use Cases and Requirements: http://www.w3.org/TR/2014/NOTE-ldp-ucr-20140313/

Anyone interested is invited to join public RDF-shapes mailing list (mail to public-rdf-shapes-request@w3.org Subject: subscribe) to follow the work being done there.

The name will be changed to RDF Data Shapes - (people tended assume "shapes" meant geometry, not data validation)

1st meeting at the W3C technical plenary in Santa Clara in fall

Overall task strategy

Possible Scope of an AP:

  • define functional requirements
  • defining a domain model
  • defining a record
  • providing programmer documentation
  • providing user documentation
  • support for input forms
  • support for user display
  • validation of record
  • validation of values

Note: these are working assumptions and can change as we learn more.

[Comment by Karen: looking at DSP, BIBFRAME, ShEx and SPIN, there is a great deal of difference in emphasis in these. ShEx and SPIN validate particular data patterns; DSP and BIBFRAME define records with some value validation. What will our group include in our definition of AP?]

We should also look at the Singapore Framework, which tries to be a comprehensive high-level view. http://dublincore.org/documents/singapore-framework/
